This is my background...
I was born in Los Angeles, California out of 2 immigrant parents. My mother originally from Chihuahua Mexico and my father originally from Guatemala City.
My story is a testament to the rich tapestry of immigrant experiences that have shaped the cultural mosaic of many cities in the United States. I was born in the vibrant city of Los Angeles, California on September 27, 1977. My unique background is a fusion of diverse heritages and cultural influences. My mother hails from the picturesque state of Chihuahua, Mexico, known for its breathtaking landscapes, rich culinary traditions, and warm hospitality. My father, on the other hand, is originally from the dynamic and historical City of Guatemala, the heart of Guatemala, with its captivating history. Guatemala is best known for its volcanic landscape, fascinating Mayan culture and the colorful colonial city of Antigua.
My parents' bravery in pursuing new opportunities abroad significantly shaped my worldview, instilling in me a profound appreciation for multicultural understanding and unity. Five years after my birth, my parents decided to leave the United States and move to my father’s ancestral home in Guatemala City. I spent my childhood in Zacapa, a town near Guatemala City, from the age of five until I was twelve. During this time, I was initially unable to speak Spanish, a challenge I overcame while living in Guatemala. However, upon returning to the United States at the age of twelve, I found that I had forgotten English and had to relearn it, as my parents had decided to move back to the United States.
Growing up with immigrant parents, I was exposed to a multitude of traditions, languages, and values. I inherited a deep appreciation for the traditions and customs of both my Mexican and Guatemalan roots. This diverse heritage has not only enriched my life but has also instilled in me a profound sense of connection to different cultures.
Upon returning to the United States, I settled in Los Angeles, California, where I was immersed in a diverse cultural environment and later moved with my family to El Paso, Texas. During my junior high and high school years, I found myself quite introverted and reserved. In school, I was labeled as a "nerd," having only a few friends and not being considered part of the popular group. This social dynamic made my high school experience less enjoyable, as I felt out of place and unable to connect with my peers.
When I started college, my perspective changed significantly. I relished the independence and responsibility of managing my own studies, finding it liberating compared to my earlier educational experiences. Initially, I was intrigued by the field of psychology, drawn to understanding the complexities of the human mind. However, my academic journey eventually led me to pursue a major in business and human resources.
In 2003, I graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso, where I earned a degree in Human Resources and Business Administration. Following my graduation, I embarked on a career dedicated to the field of human resources, driven by a deep-rooted passion for guiding and supporting others in achieving their fullest potential. With over two decades of experience as an HR professional, I have been instrumental in the development and progress of numerous individuals throughout my career.
One of my most heartwarming childhood endeavors was my unique way of spreading hope and positivity. I would thoughtfully pen motivational quotes on small pieces of paper, a practice stemming from my deep-seated belief in the power of words to heal and inspire. I would then share these messages of encouragement with strangers I encountered on the streets, particularly those who appeared downtrodden or in need of emotional support. This simple, yet profound, gestures of kindness not only brought transient moments of happiness to the recipients but also sowed the seeds of my future path in life – one dedicated to uplifting and empowering others.
